1964 New York World’s Fair Kiosk | IBM & Eames | Flushing Meadow, N.Y.

Designed by Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen Associates, the pavilion created the effect of a covered garden, with all exhibits in the open beneath a grove of 45, 32-feet high, man-made steel trees.

The 54,038 sq. ft. pavilion was divided into six sections: The “Information Machine,” a 90-foot-high main theater with multiple screen projection; pentagon theaters, where puppet-like devices explained the workings of data processing systems; computer applications area; probability machine; scholar’s walk; and a 4,500-square-foot administration building.

A Single Man (2009)

Visual feast of a film. John Lautner’s stunning 1949 Schaffer Residence (in the Whiting Woods area of Glendale, CA) is prominently featured and absolutely captures the beauty of a modernist masterpiece. From Julianne Moore’s period hair and eye makeup, her lavish 1960s Hollywood Regency home interior, to architect Peter J. Holdstock’s 1966 Fine Arts Hall, Ambassador College in Pasadena. Definitely worthy of a second viewing….or third…or fourth…oh yeah, great story and great acting too!

“A SINGLE MAN is based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood. Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, it is the story of a British college professor (Colin Firth) who is struggling to find meaning to his life after the death of his long time partner. The story is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.” - (iTunes Movie Trailers)
