Mid-Century Modern Freak

Atomic. Futurist. Populuxe. Googie. Modernist.

The Starbucks Coffee company did the right thing by preserving the mid-century modern exterior of this building located on 7290 Bollinger Rd. San Jose, CA 95129 (Cupertino). The developer who handled this delicate restoration was Hunter/Storm. The original structure was designed by architect J. van der Ploeg in 1959 for the Yamanaka Japanese Bonsai Nursery. The business closed in 1998 and was vacant for many years before Starbucks moved in. Sipping a cup of joe can’t get any better.
