The billboard campaign seemed innocent enough. It juxtaposed images of Dietz & Watson franks with the names of famous Franks — Frank Zappa, Frank Lloyd Wright — and carried a tagline, “Grill the Famous Frank.” Artist Vicki DaSilva saw the billboards and informed the estates of Zappa and Wright. Within hours, Dietz & Watson was scrambling to dismantle the signs. DaSilva said, “I like a good barbecue like anyone else but the image next to the names was so insulting.”
