Mid-Century Modern Freak

Atomic. Futurist. Populuxe. Googie. Modernist. Vintage Pop Culture.

My good friend and neighbor, Christina, surprised me with this cool dvd ahead of Modernism Week in Palm Springs. If you can’t go, this film will give you a tour of 20 Alexander homes!

Excerpt from the film website:

In the mid-Fifties the Alexander Construction Company built architecturally designed homes for the working class. In doing so, they became the catalyst for contemporary mid-Century design in Palm Springs, California. Today, their homes survive, thrive and are celebrated in this Mid-Century Mecca.  This documentary film takes you beyond the hedges and walls and shows you these homes as only the homeowners see them. You’ll meet the people who take care of these mid-century gems and hear from them why living here is special.  “This is a story that needs to be told and the telling is long overdue.” - Robert Imber, PS Modern Tours
