540 unit military ‘post & beam’ housing built for the U.S. Air Force on 148 acres outside McClellan Air Force Base. The houses were contemporary in design, an unusual departure from the traditional styles of military housing available before this time. Originally named Capehart Housing, it was later named after Senator John L. McClellan, chair of the senate committee that funded the project. - Via
